June Guest Designer: Laura Norris, Take 2!

Hi Everyone,

Laura here again!

I am excited to share another card with you this month.  As we are wrapping up nautical month here on the blog, I featured more nautical paper available in the store.  My card was made with paper from the First Edition Sail Away collection.  What great patterns they have in this collection.  You really need to check it out!  I chose a fun pattern that reminded me of waves, so I fussy cut around the pattern to create an ocean.  And what ocean is complete without a mermaid??  I added one of the adorable mermaids from the new Lawn Fawn set, colored her with Copics, and added some shimmer with a Wink of Stella pen.  The sky on my card is from the sea mix Hero Arts layering paper.   A white embossed sentiment and a couple of sequins finish off this cute card.  I think I’ll send this to a friend I haven’t seen in a while!

It has been an honor to be the guest designer for June here on the blog!  Thanks to the DT for letting me play along with some of the great products found in the store!

Better With Coffee Summer Coffee Bloghop

Wow there's a lot of beautiful inspiration linked up to this hop!  I have been in love with this coffee bean embossing folder since I saw it during our very first hop!  I struggled getting a good picture of this card.  The white sparkly washi is mounted on white cardstock so that it stayed white.  The steam rising is stamped with frost VersaMark ink.

Don't forget we are having a sale that runs through Sunday.

Come shop during the hop and receive 15% off your total order by entering the code S16CLBH.

Hope you are enjoying the hop!

THD Challenge- Here Kitty!

Hey friends!  Katie here with another fun card for this month's The Heart Desires Challenge #1!

Reminder of the challenge photo:

It is funny to look at this fabulous photo, there are so many things to look at!  This time around, here is what I spied... some orange and blue, fish and some background pattern.   Now, here is what I made from that:

Do you see how I got that?  Well I am thrilled with this card, I love this little kitty peeking in on the fishbowl through the window.  Those sweet little critters are from MFT Birdie Brown set Cool Cat.  I colored these cuties with my Copics.  Between then I added a window via a Memory Box die and used dimensionals to create the space between.  The sentiment is from another MFT set.

So, how will the challenge photo inspire you?!  I can't wait to see.

Head on over to The Heart Desires Store to check out all the fabulous products.

Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop Super Sponsor!

We are so very pleased to be a super sponsor again for the Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop which runs from June 17 - 24!   There's sure to be a lot of great inspiration and tons of awesome prizes up for grabs.  I hope you are able to join in the fun!

I've been wanting to play with this SugarPeas Coffee Die set since I got it a couple of months ago!   These dies are on order and should be hitting the store soon.  The coffee rings are PTI and the sentiment is Savvy. The ink for the coffee rings is the Hero Arts Ombre Sand to Chocolate Brown.

I don't know about you but the first sip of coffee in the morning is one of my greatest pleasures.  It make me feel like everything's all right in my world.  (Especially if it is a peppermint white mocha)

Thanks for stopping by and please come back during the week to see what the design team creates to inspire you!

June Guest Designer: Laura Norris

Hi everyone,  Laura here!

Today I am honored to be the guest designer here on The Heart Desires blog.  I was thrilled when Toni asked me if I was interested!  Heck Yea!!

In keeping with the Nautical theme they are featuring this month, I am highlighting some of the great 6 X 6 paper pads they carry in the store.

My card uses the Sail Away paper pad.  These papers are amazing!! You get 64 sheets in a pack, half of them double sided! The designs range from anchors, boats, seashells and sunglasses, to lighthouses, rope and starfish! Just perfect for any type of nautical themed card you would want to make.

I used a sheet of the anchor paper as my background and added a focal point by diecutting a stitched tag with Avery Elle's Circle Tag.  Then I stamped the Lawn Fawn sail boat in Memento Nautical Blue ink, and colored the sails with my Copics.  A navy twine bow finishes it off.  I think I'll give this one to my husband!

I'll be back again later this month for another guest spot here at The Heart Desires, and a HUGE thank you to the awesome DT  letting me have some fun with them too!

Nautical by Nature

Ahoy, Mates! We're getting nautical over here at The Heart Desires, and I have a fun, boy-focused graduation card to celebrate the season featuring all Carta Bella papers from the 1920's inspired Yacht Club collection available in the store!

What I love about this collection, and Carta Bella papers in general, is the quality of the papers.  These paper are THICK and textured.  They are absolutely stunning and create such a solid work.

I have tried to capture the texture in my close-ups.  Look close!  The chipboard frame is part of the Crate Paper The Pier collection available in the store (link at the end of post).  My student's name begins with a 'J', so I cut and layered the letter under the gold embossed vellum.  Sentiment is from an old Kelly Purkey set-- but Tonya has many great Kelly Purkey stamps in the shop for you to choose from!

If you are familiar with my work, you know I love layering and mixing patterns (note the wonderful red cork paper!).  This collection affords many opportunities to do so, and while nautical is not necessarily my favorite theme (despite living on the beach and being a water-baby!), I really enjoy the patterns in this collection because I love the 1920's and New England.

However, my card does not actually feature any of those particular papers as this was designed for a student who is graduating from 8th grade! The collection is perfect for masculine cards for all ages!

The 12 x 12 papers feature a variety of smaller images that can be cut out and used for scrapbooking and layering, like this boy here! All of my students are ready for a "no work zone", as am I!! I have used the sentiment and compass stickers from the Yacht Club sticker collection.

Rather than making a folded card, it is one layer and the double-sided paper provides a fun back on which to write the congratulatory note!

All packaged and ready to go!  Tonya has some great bags in the shop (on sale, too!) that you could use to house your card!

Thanks for sailing with me today!

Seattle Yacht Club

I've been a long time fan of all things nautical and love how it's become popular again.  The Heart Desires store has quite a bit of nautical including the Carta Bella Yacht Club 6x6 paper pad.  I used several layers of it on my card today and even added some gold stitching.

Don't you love the Altenew Sketchy Cities America 2 - Seattle set?  I heat embossed it in charcoal on vellum.

This card was designed especially for a co-worker's upcoming birthday.  She owns a sailboat and goes out on Elliott Bay.
